bed linen was soiled and had holes in it and it had to be changed. Trouser press and iron were not working. Room generally in need of redecoration and up grade for a hotel supposedly of this quality.

Edinburgh is a great city - lots to see and do, bars and restuarants good, taxi services good, most folk we met were helpful and friendly. Public transport - buses - good value for money with a 'day rider'.

it was not clear to us old folk that we could use the tv in our room without getting extras on our bill so we just switched it off at the wall.should be more scottish members of staff. The two we spoke to happy and patient with us. this hotel is comfortable and we were not disturb during the night with other guests. breakfast was plentiful. We certainly would stay at the Mount Royal hotel again
Top Tip
HAVE dinner in the theatre bar and enjoy a show at playhouse theatre. GO back to the hotel bar for a relaxing nightcap.
We also enjoyed our visit to Mary Kings close in the Royal MILE.

I am sorry to say our stay was not a happy one.
We arrived at 1 55pm our room was not ready so we were asked to wait in the bar, at 2 30pm I went back to the desk to ask about a room, to be fair they did say they would up grade us but it was a double room which is no use for my husbands illness.
We were then give a twin on the 4th floor room 453 [I think] it was shabby, the bathroom had a smell, the colour of the mat for the shower was a funny dirty colour and the beds moved when ever you sat on them or turned over in bed. I never slept all night for the hum from a boiler or air-conditioner right outside our window, also why do none of the staff organise the cases that are left to be collected later, they opened the door and the rest was up to youself, not very good for security I could have left a bomb? breakfast was fine and the staff in the restaurant very attentive. I am so sorry that this so negative but it is what happened

Ideal location. Well presented breakfast and good evening meal. The bargain of the year must be afternoon tea - a substantial spread for £10 for TWO. Very close to the major art galleries, Jenner's store, and the start point for open top bus tours.

Ideally placed on Princes street between Jenners and M&S.

Reasonably priced car park at the station. Can recommend the Outsider restaurant on George IV Bridge, Maison Bleu and the Elephant House coffee shop. View from top of Nelson's monument is £3 well spent. Trip round Holyrood interesting.
