Parliament House Hotel

15 Calton Hill, Edinburgh EH1 3BJ
  • Great location only a few minutes' walk from Princes Street.
  • Lovely Jacobean/Georgian building.
  • Blend of tradition and modernity in rooms.
  • Interior full of period details.

Our Review

Steeped in history – both in its architecture and surroundings – the Parliament House offers pretty much the definitive traditional Edinburgh hotel experience. At the same time, however, it has plenty of modern amenities and an excellent restaurant serving food infused with Scottish influences.

Sitting in quiet seclusion at the foot of Calton Hill, down a short cobbled lane, the Parliament House Hotel is created from two historic buildings: one Jacobean and the other Georgian. Period details feature throughout, like the original wrought iron lift, now a comfortable place to chat on the telephone. The 53 guestrooms are decorated in a traditional style appropriate to the history of the building, but they also boast the relaxed feel of a private home, as well as up-to-date facilities. The hotel’s “MP’s Bistro” is the place to get your day off to the best possible start with a hearty breakfast and to enjoy an evening dinner in relaxed comfort. The Head Chef combines Scottish influences with the freshest local ingredients for a world of wonderful flavours. What’s more, the open fire and comfy armchairs in the main hotel foyer create the ideal spot to enjoy a warming malt whisky or nightcap before bed from the bar selection. (Overnight underground parking is available at the nearby NCP car park called the Greenside, just off Leith Street. A 24-hour period costs approximately £18.00 or an hour costs approximately £3.10. Guests arriving by car can park at the front of the hotel on a single yellow line for up to 5 minutes to drop off their luggage and then take their car to the nearby car park.)
